Publishing with FrontPage (tm)
to Minnesota MicroNet's Web Server

Don't forget: We support FrontPage Server Extensions. If you'd like to use FrontPage Server Extensions, let us know before you upload your Web files. If you choose not to use FrontPage Server Extensions, that's perfectly fine, too. You can still use FrontPage. Simply follow the instructions below.
NOTE: These instructions apply to Websites hosted on Minnesota MicroNet's Web server.

FrontPage 2002/2000 | FrontPage 98

FrontPage 2000/2002

Create your Web pages with FrontPage. When you're ready to move the pages from your computer to your Web space here (publish), click on the Publish button or pull down the File menu and select Publish Web.

If SERVER EXTENSIONS ARE ENABLED:

  1. Select More Webs.
  2. Under the box, Specify the location to publish your web to, enter www.yourdomain.com with yourdomain.com being the domain name of your Website. Click Publish.

  3. Enter your FrontPage username and password. (Note: The password is a FrontPage password, which you need to ask us for.) Click Login.

IF SERVER EXTENSIONS ARE NOT ENABLED:

Under the box, Specify the location to publish your web to, enter ftp://ftp.mm.com/public_html and click Publish. It will ask for your username and password. (Note: This is your Website username and password.) Enter them and click OK.

While publishing, a screen saying the pages won't work may display. Ignore this and click Continue. When the pages are transferred, you will see:

If you click on Click here to view your published Web site, FrontPage automatically puts in ftp://ftp.mm.com/public_html and gives you an error message. That's because you're viewing your pages with your Web browser and need a Web address that starts with http://. Enter the address of your Web site's home page. For example: http://www.yourdomain.org or http://www.mm.com/user/myusername

FrontPage 98

Create your Web pages with FrontPage. When you're ready to move the pages from your computer to your Web space here (publish), click on the Publish button:

In the box under "Publish FrontPage Web to:" delete what's in the box and replace it with ftp.mm.com

NOTE: You may have to click the More Webs... button, delete what's in that box, replace it with ftp.mm.com and click the OK button.

The Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard should appear:

For the FTP Server Name, enter ftp.mm.com
For the Directory Path, enter public_html
Click the Next button.

In the Username field, enter your 3-8 character username.
In the Password field, enter your 6-8 character password.
Click the Finish button.

FrontPagetm will then transfer all of your files from your Web on your computer into your Website on our Web server.

Please note: If you originally created and uploaded your Website without Front Page Server Extensions turned on, then decide to have Front Page Server Extensions turned on, that's perfectly fine. However, please remember to follow the instructions for uploading with Front Page Server Extensions turned ON. When extensions are turned on, do not use ftp://ftp.mm.com/public_html for the location to publish to as you had previously done. Use www.yourdomain.com instead.

Another note: If you prefer to create Web pages with Front Pagetm, but transfer the files into your Web space with other FTP software such as WSFTP, CuteFTP, Fetch (if you're on a Mac), or some other FTP software, that's fine. Simply find the files on your computer and use the other FTP software to transfer them. The FTP Host/Server Name is still ftp.mm.com Don't anonymously FTP; use your username and password. The files go into the public_html directory. Your home page should be named either index.html or index.htm
